¡°We pray for the seed of Jesus to bear fruits of dialogue for the Korean peninsula so that the talks taking place in this period will promote harmony and peace within the region¡¦ We pray so that those who have direct responsibilities in this will act with judgment to promote a relationship of trust within the international community". Dear Friend--in the midst of mainstream media that is dominated by hawkish policy prescriptions, skepticism, and doubts on the current peace process led by two Koreas, one searches for strength and inspiration. Inspired by Pope Francis's Easter peace prayers for the Korean peninsula, I kindly send you blessings and goodwill notes that two Koreas have received from our friends in peace communities around the world for their difficult journey ahead. The third inter-Korean summit is scheduled on April 27 and the first U.S.-DPRK summit in May. Imagine the future and our journey--from Seoul to Pyeongyang to Berlin via trans-Eurasia train! Please help us!

First, here is an update and key points from Korean press that you don't hear in the American press.

Spring on the Korean Peninsula!

»©¾Ñ±ä µé¿¡µµ º½Àº ¿À´Â°¡?

1. 77.8% of Koreans support peace talks! 77.8% Çѱ¹ ±¹¹Îµé ³²ºÏ ÆòÈ ÇÁ·Î¼¼½º ÁöÁöÇÑ´Ù.

According to the latest poll by MBC, 77.8% of respondents support President Moon Jae-in¡¯s flexible engagement policy toward North Korea.

The inter-Korean summit agenda may include reopening the railroad that connects Seoul and Pyongyang to implement South Korea's New Northeastern Policy: ¡°From Seoul to Berlin¡± via Trans-Eurasia train. It is based on the vision of a unified and peaceful Korea¡¯s serving as a bridge and gateway that connects Northeast Asia to Europe--from cities in the United States, to Japan, China, Russia, Central Asia and to Europe-- which will spur unprecedented economic prosperity, social and cultural global community: Northeast Asia-European Community.

South Korea should help Trump accomplish a historic mission which no American presidents had been able to: a peace treaty, Nuclear-Free-Korean Peninsula, Nuclear-Free-Northeast Asia!

Interview with a former Unification Minister, Lee Jong-suk: What does Kim Jong-un want? Three things: 1) To develop and be accepted as a normal state; 2) To achieve China style of high economic growth; 3) To secure an ironclad assurance of regime survival.

Op-ed by the former Unification Minister, Chung Dong-young, on peace talks:

Possibility of regularization of inter-Korean summit meetings in order to implement the follow-ups of summit meetings.

President Moon can provide security assurance to the North at the 4.27 inter-Korean summit. South Korea can provide security assurance and respect North Korea¡¯s sovereignty, etc.

A ceasefire was signed on July 27, 1953. Delaying a peace treaty for 65 years is a shame. Everyone asks if Kim Jong-un will give up nuclear weapons. He will not voluntarily give up. It¡¯s up to us.

2. Reflections from Korean artists and staff who participated in the Spring concert in North Korea: South Korean musicians performed in Pyongyang in goodwill cultural exchanges. The Elders, an international organization of global leaders, has expressed its support for South Korea and President Moon Jae-in's efforts to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula, calling Moon's upcoming summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un a "precious opportunity" to achieve that goal, the presidential office Cheong Wa Dae said Wednesday¡¦."The Elders wish to express their firm support for the course you have embarked upon," said the letter, dated March 28. "The possibility that diplomacy will succeed in making the Korean Peninsula a safer place, eventually leading to its complete denuclearisation, is a precious opportunity that cannot be allowed to pass by without the determined efforts of all those who can help," it added.

Lastly, a Korean school girl who sought to bring a spring in 1919 through peaceful resistance against war and violence on a brutalized colonized Korea serve us as the biggest inspiration! We may not see the fruits of our peace action of today but our children and grandchildren may, and they may remember us, just like we honor the 19-year-old Yu Gwan-sun.

Obituaries. Overlooked No More. Yu Gwan-sun, a Korean Independence Activist who Defined Japanese Rule. The New York Times. 1919³â »©¾Ñ±ä µé¿¡¼ ÆòÈÀÇ º½À» ±âµµ, ±â´Ù·È´ø À¯°ü¼ø ¿»ç, ´º¿å ŸÀÓÁö 100³âÈÄ ºÎ°í ±â»ç.

When a call for peaceful protests came in Spring 1919, a schoolgirl became the face of a nation¡¯s collective yearning for freedom. She was influenced by her father, who taught her about Christianity and instilled traditional Confucian values of nationalism and civic awareness. Nine members of the Yu family spanning three generations were involved in the independence movement. Yu was an intelligent child who attended a nearby Presbyterian church and memorized Bible verses easily, according to curators at the Ewha Museum in Seoul. An American missionary, Alice J. Hammond Sharp, encouraged Yu to attend the Ewha school to advance her education, something few Korean women did at that time. The Korean Peninsula came under Japanese military rule three years after Yu was born. It was formally annexed in 1910, the start of a 35-year struggle for independence. Yu would not have remembered a free Korea, and she died long before liberation in August 1945.
