The horizon is love. It is now my life to look at the horizon. Life is love itself. The horizon is endless. In fact, the visible horizon is not far away. It is 5 to 10 kilometers long at the most. The horizon with the hills is much closer than that. I am always running towards the end of the horizon, but when I get there, I see another horizon. Love is always so like that. We always run for love, but love is always as dim as the horizon. Though it was not that far away.

It is 90 kilometers from Joseph City to Chambers. I have to go in two days. I have to camp out in the middle. 55 kilometers is a long distance for one day, but there is a national park about 55 kilometers away, so I thought I could stay overnight, but I was mistaken. No matter how much I look around, there is no place to sleep. I asked the park ranger to help me stay overnight under the eaves of a building , or a restaurant, or a toilet, or a park office. But he was very businesslike and determined. The people I've met so far were usually very kind and friendly, so I'm not used to his attitude. Even the police officers who were called in were always in favor of me, but he said coldly like a cold-blooded animal. He says they close at 6:30, and anybody cannot camp within 8 kilometers of the park. He was ordering me to stay eight kilometers away from the park politely but with determination. It was getting dark, clouds were about to rain and I begged him that I was extremely tired, but his attitude became sharper. It's a big problem. I've had the biggest crisis.

I, who should push the cart with the tired body, couldn't go an extra 12 kilometers to the next exit of the highway where a large trailer truck runs at 120 kilometers in the dark night. There is no guarantee that there will be a place for camping after going 12 kilometers further to the next exit. There was a camping car in the park when I was walking away from the park. My body collapses, so does my mind. For the first time on this trip I ran towards the car to get in. Whether the driver saw me running to it or not, the car started and went away. If I'm lucky that the car has left, regardless of my hunger and tired body, I haven't left a blemish on my challenge. My plan to finish transcontinental with only two legs without using fossil fuels was almost thwarted.

When we are tired, our eyelids are always the heaviest. Then comes the head. My head keeps falling to the ground. When my head is bent, the spine is also bent and the chest is shriveled, and I cannot breathe well. In my ears something is ringing to hear. My steps along the dark night road are heavy to the extreme. Turning on the lights of the headlights, flashing the light of the cart, I run on a highway where cars drive in the speed of 120 kilometers. It was the most dangerous stretch ever. When I run with exhausted body like now, it looks like I am standing still even though I run on. No matter how hard I run, I seem to be in the same place.

Fortunately, five or six kilometers further in the middle, I found a relatively quiet place with sand dunes piled up for road repair work. I will hear the sound of the car passing fast all night, but it's nothing in this situation. I set up a tent looking for a place to camp in the dark and the weather forecast says it will rain from midnight. I set up the tent just below the sand dunes and rain will flow in if it rains. But I can't help it anymore. I don't have the energy to move more. I'm completely worn out. Even though I am all wet, I can't help but float away in the rain. All I could do was to pray to Mother Nature's spirits. Praying is the easiest of them, but now I don't even have the power to pray.

It doesn't matter even if I'm hungry and my stomach and my back stick together. I had to sleep for hours with my back attached to the ground and I had to recover my energy. That was the only thing I wanted dearly. The space in this small tent is a recharging station for tomorrow's hard work. When I lay down with my legs wide open, I fell asleep as if my body and mind were melting into the earth. Like a battery plugged into a charger, I fell asleep without wiggling. When I opened my eyes to the sound of the rain, it was about 12 o'clock. Again I fell back into sleep in extreme fatigue. I heard a heavy rain in my sleep, but I couldn't help it. I had to rest like this. Fortunately, I woke up in the morning and found my sleeping bag slightly wet, but not washed away.

Today is March 1st. It's just a month since I started. When I wake up in the morning, I get mystically energetic again. Fortunately, it didn't rain much all night. It stopped raining for a while, then as I set out to start, it began to rain again. I start moving again in the rain. I moved a lot yesterday and passed a little more than Chambers which I aimed at today. Then came the Navajo Indian village of Sander. Navajo occupies the widest area among the Indian tribes. They run an autonomous country called Navajo Nation. In the film "Forest Gump," red-lighted sacred rocks were often seen, similar to the Monument Valley, where Tom Hanks finishes running in the movie.

There was a big gas station, which was a local store, a restaurant and a laundry room at the same time. I didn't have the strength to go any further, and I couldn't get a place to stay. I was going to spend the night here because it's a 24-hour-open place. I'm standing there, eating a medium pizza, and then a man comes up to me and talks to me, showing his interest. I talked to a 51-year-old poor Navajo Indian named Duggie, and asked him if he'd like me to join him tonight because I din't have a proper place to sleep. He was willing to do so. His overflowing affection led me to spend the day in his house.

The Indian village is even poorer and more miserable than I thought. It is a barren land in the desert, and there is no garden in the house. Entering the house, his grandmother was at first puzzled by a stranger's visit, heard the story, and welcomed me, grabbing my hands. He interprets me because I don't understand the Indian language. There are several smiling faces in the family picture on the wall, but only Doggie and his grandmother live in this house now. He interprets me she means to take a shower, rest in the couch, and have dinner, because I look very tired. The fireplace was well-burnt with firewood, so the house was warm. His grandmother, as good as mine, does the job of sewing beads. She asks about my family, and I say I have mother, then she asks me to bring her a necklace she made. After the shower, I lay down on the couch and I couldn't even wake up to have dinner, and fell into a deep sleep until morning.

I think the Indians would have given white people a warm bed and food when they arrived in the land in Mayflower and were as cold and hungry as I was. It is puzzling how to accept the fact that farmers who have never owned land for generations in Europe have flocked to this new heavenly land and taken all Indian land, which they regarded as objects of worship, not of ownership, without any sense of guilt, and pushed them to such a barren land.

The front-line spirit or American pioneering spirit is the spirit of the Western construction era, which expands to the west based on the influx of immigrants. The history of the American conquest of the West is a history of a series of ordeals for Indians. The land Americans used to call unexplored land was in fact the place of a long life where Indians lived for generations. It is the essence of Frontier spirit that has uprooted the land of Indian life. For Europeans who shouted for freedom and equality, the Indians were no more than barbarians. The conquerors always treat the conquered as such. Barbarians, what they call, have no freedom and equality.

I fell asleep at about 4 p.m. in the house where they were poor but had treated me richly with their best they could give, and I fell into a hard sleep by 6 a.m., and in the morning I regained a great deal of energy. Once again charged with new energy, I was going to leave the village lightly, and then suddenly the pitbol terrier dogs rushed me in group. Four or five, I can't remember. With the advent of a strange intruder, the dogs were poking at their mouths in excitement and rushed me barking in a roar. Dogs instinctively surround me and bark at me with a growl as if they were coming at me at any time. Their fangs, which appear between raised lips, were a more realistic threat to me than any nuclear threat. In my head my flesh has been torn to shreds on their dreadful fangs. As my face became bloodless, my legs bent unknowingly, and I sat down and put my hands together in the sky. ¡°Dogs, please help me!¡± Except that shout, there was nothing I could do. The fact that humans are at the top of the food chain in the natural world was not helpful at all.

Sticky sweats run down my spine. They will let it go because they don't bite, but we don't know how the dogs will suddenly change. After a while, the owner comes out and calls them, but the dogs bark fiercely and growls as if they were coming at me at any time. The owner was also flustered and kicked them away hard. It was also surprising that the fierce dogs were as gentle as sheep to the owner's harsh kicks. There seem to be more dogs in the Indian village than the Indian population. And no house has a dog-eared house. When I get out of the village and into another one, two other dogs run wild at me. I was now more able to deal with the dogs of that size than the brave Navajo Indian warrior who fought against cavalry.
